A ten day debate on the future of design. - 

"How can today’s design still be more than the proverbial brick in the wall that deprives us of sight on a better future? That was the starting point of The Wall, Nieuwe German Gestaltung #004, the fourth in a series of exhibitions on experimental and alternative design from Germany – a country that still is a model in the field of design to many, but keeps on ignoring this kind of alternatives at times when nearly everybody calls for a massive change. The exhibition at the Biennale Interieur is the first in the series to be organized outside of Germany. On initiative of state of DESIGN, director Max Borka and after a concept and in a scenography by Yasmine Benhadj-Djilali, fifty designers present one or more projects. But next to that the exhibition also serves as a platform, where curator Max Borka continuously debates the future of design – not just in Germany, but globally – with participants, guests, and the public, on the spot and online.

Plans & maquettes for the lamp GHOST were on display during The Wall, Nieuwe German Gestaltung #004 - a show initiated by Max Borka for the occasion of Biennale Interieur 2016; additionally, project GHOST was featured in DM Magazine // De Morgen, Oct 2016, Nr. 231 p.118 and in the catalogue Breaking Down Walls // Shapeshifting Future Design, State of Design, Berlin 2017.

We decided to do the exhibition OFF EMPIRE at the travel agency because we believed in a form of art and design that is not elitist towards everyday life. We didn't just want to exhibit our works on this occasion, we wanted to make a tangible show - not at least with the help of various furniture objects that we integrated into this exhibition. These pieces represented some sort of catalyst for our approach, which allowed us to actively involve our visitors in the exhibition, and even - to some extent - become a part of it. We hoped to blur the invisible line between the visitor and the exhibited objects.

The exhibition VICIS is presenting the works of national and international designers which are concerned with future thinking, pioneering concepts, new and reinterpreted everyday objects and experimental material research. The show was held during Munich Creative Business Week 2018. (Kindly supported by Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft und Medien, Energie und Technik.)

The lamp SPIDER was first introduced in VICIS || Always change a running System, a design exhibition which took place on the occasion of Munich Creative Business Week 2018. Anja Sopic Lab presented a fully functioning lamp that featured a chrome base and customized lampshade. Later in 2018, SPIDER was presented during Karlsruhe Design Week as a stand alone product - the first ever, since Anja Sopic Design was founded two years ago.

A catalogue was released on the occasion of this show - VICIS 2018 published by State of Design, 76 pages, 14,8 x 10,6 cm
